1. How white can my teeth get?
BriteSmile has achieved an average of eight shades whiter in clinical trials. However, this procedure can brighten smiles as many as 14 shades. Individual results will vary, as each patient's teeth will respond differently to treatment. The ultimate goal is to achieve a natural white and stain-free smile. Even severe discoloration can be treated, and produce a favorable outcome in many cases.
2. How long will the results last?
The long-term results tend to vary by patient. If you drink lots of coffee, dark cola and tea, and do not maintain regular dentists' visits, your results will not last as long. Regular professional care and the use of whitening maintenance products can help maintain your white smile for as long as two to four years.
3. How does it work?
Once cosmetic dentist Dr. Sands examines your teeth and gums, he will apply the whitening gel to your teeth. Then, the BriteSmile light will be positioned over your teeth to activate the gel and accelerate the whitening process. You can then relax as the natural whiteness of your teeth is restored to your smile through the oxidation process. The whole procedure will take only an hour.
4. How safe is the BriteSmile procedure?
Extremely safe. The BriteSmile procedure will not soften your tooth enamel or existing fillings. The hydrogen peroxide in the whitening gel is only 15 percent; significantly lower than the competing whitening gels that range between 35 and 50 percent.
5. Will it hurt?
Most patients do not experience any pain or sensitivity associated with the BriteSmile procedure. However, a few do report a dull ache once the treatment is over.
An analgesic will help alleviate this feeling. You should be careful to avoid hot and cold drinks for 24 hours following the procedure if you have any degree of tooth sensitivity.
6. Can anyone undergo this procedure?
