As more types of porcelain veneers appear on the market, manufacturers compete to develop features that make their products more attractive. Lumineers®, very thin veneers made of Cerinate® porcelain is one of those products.
The manufacturers of Cerinate® porcelain use a proprietary process that makes the porcelain exceptionally strong though only as thick as a contact lens. Like veneers, Lumineers® look very natural. One benefit of such thin veneers is that, for the right veneer candidate it is possible to place the veneer without removing any of your natural tooth enamel. This makes the process completely reversible because your natural tooth is unchanged.
Another benefit of Lumineers® is that there is a reduced risk of tooth sensitivity, especially when no enamel needs to be removed. But, even with such thin veneers, sometimes the tooth needs to be prepared by removing a thin layer of natural enamel. This is similar to the traditional veneer procedure, differing only in the thickness of enamel that must be removed. Lumineers® generally require only two visits, one for a consultation and the second to place them. You will leave with a brighter more attractive smile with little inconvenience.
