Teeth whitening is one of the most effective ways of beautifying your smile. Many people have discolored or stained teeth after years of drinking coffee, wine, soda, and tea. Although foods like tomato sauce and soy sauce can stain your teeth, other foods – and certain natural remedies – can help brighten your smile.
Some of the most common home remedies for teeth whitening include:
- Baking soda – Experts agree that baking soda is one of the strongest teeth whitening agents. Baking soda is a mildly abrasive acid neutralizer that gently removes stains from your enamel. If your toothpaste does not already have baking soda, sprinkle a small amount on top of it each day.
- Strawberries – Strawberries contain an enzyme called malic acid that is used in some whitening toothpastes. You can either cut the strawberry in half and then rub it on your teeth, or mash up the strawberry. Leave the juice on the surface of your teeth for about a minute, and then rinse with water.
- Hydrogen peroxide – Rinsing your mouth with this oxidizing antiseptic a couple of times every month can whiten your smile. Mix a tablespoon of water with a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide and swish it around your teeth for about a minute. After you spit it out, allow the peroxide to stay on your teeth for another couple of minutes before rinsing your mouth with water.
As helpful as all of these natural remedies are, they can only whiten your smile to a limited extent. If you want to dramatically brighten your teeth, our professional in-office and take-home teeth whitening treatments can provide you with the complete transformation you’re looking for.
